The Bergman's Bear is a type of Friend that appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game, with a brief cameo in the anime adaptation.

Appearance

Bergman’s Bear has long grey hair, falling in front of her shoulders and tied into a large ponytail at the back. The tips of it are a darker shade, while her animal ears and bangs have lighter streaks on them. She has a large long tailed pink ribbon tying her hair up. She has a large black bear’s paw with a frilly pink band on it attached to a purple and pink handle. Her brown eyes lack shine like a typical extinct Friend’s, and they have a light purple spot in the bottom.

Her sleeveless white blouse has a popped collar, with a black bowtie around her neck. She wears a pink skirt with a large bow and suspenders, and a longer fluffy black skirt underneath. Her socks reach her mid thighs and have a small black rim of fur around the top, the same as her arm warmers. She wears dark navy-grey shoes with black laces.

Her old design has some minor differences, such as her eyes being purple and all the pinks being a more vibrant shade. Her socks don’t have a rim of fur around the top, and her hair lacks lighter streaks. She has a black skirt with a white layer underneath, though she still has a large bow tied around her waist. The handle of her bear paw is a plain brown.

Bergman's bear is a strange animal, as it's only believed to have existed. There's no scientific proof to say that the Bergman's bear was a real animal. This makes the Bergman's bear a cryptid; an animal that is reported to exist, but with no sufficient proof to say it does. This puts it alongside other legends such as the yeti.

Stories of the Bergman's bear began when a Swedish zoologist called Sten Bergman found what he believed to be the pelt and footprints of a gigantic Kamchatkan bear that had not yet been discovered. The fur was shorter than that of the local Kamchatkan bears, and the fur was a deep black. However, after this discovery was made, nobody ever bore witness to another Bergman's bear, either living or dead.

Over the years, interest Bergman's bear would spike periodically. In the late 1980s, huntsman Rodion Sivobolov would suggest that the mythical Russian bear 'Irkuiem' might have ties with the Bergman's bear. It too was described as a gigantic bear, and had nothing but eyewitness reports to go off of. Russian biologist N.K. Vereshchagin suggested it might be a Arctodus simus, a prehistoric bear thought to be extinct. However, this was shot down on the grounds that the Arctodus simus' anatomy did not match what eyewitnesses were reporting.
