Alpine Marmot is a type of mammalian Friend first revealed in the January 2020 issue of the Shonen Ace magazine, alongside the redesign for Long-Tailed Chinchilla.
Appearance
Alpine Marmot has black eyes. She has shoulder-long grey hair with creamy tips at the bangs and the sides, a pair of small marmot ears on top. She is in Japanese school uniform: white shirt with a red ribbon underneath a creamy sweater, a red plaid short skirt, grey-fading-into-cream kneehigh socks and grey shoes with red ribbons. She wears long, black gloves and has a long black tail.

In Real Life
The alpine marmot is a ground-squirrel from the genus Marmota, native to alpine and sub-alpine meadows in central and southern Europe. The average adult alpine marmot stands around 20 centimeters tall at the shoulder and can be up to 50 centimeters long, while typically weighing three to eight kilograms. They are omnivores with a preference for plant matter, with diets consisting mostly of softer plant matter such as flowers, grasses, herbs and leaves, supplemented by grains, worms, and small arthropods such as insects and arachnids.
Alpine marmots are excellent diggers capable of breaking through tough soil with their claws, and they use this skill to dig burrows to inhabit. They live in family groups consisting of the parents and their offspring; alpine marmots are monogamous, usually breed in late spring, and give birth to anywhere from one to seven pups after just five weeks of pregnancy. The pups first leave the burrow at 40 days old, and most of the offspring will leave as they reach sexual maturity at around two to three years old; a family group can seemingly possess young from several litters, resulting in up to 10 or 15 juveniles living alongside their parents as a family unit. Adults are known to be very territorial, especially females who may have young to defend. At least one member of a family unit will always be on guard duty, warning others of danger with a high-pitched scream; this behavior is very similar to that of other ground-squirrels, such as prairie dogs. In winter, the whole family hibernates in a large central chamber of the den.
The alpine marmot as a species has a stable population, and is not in any danger of extinction. Its numbers are regulated by predators such as foxes, eagles and occasionally humans.
