Barbary Lion is a type of Friend that appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game.
Appearance
Barbary Lion's pose is intimidating and heavy, as if she were taking battle stance. One of her most defining features is her large mane that fades into more regular short hair of a tan orange tint, striking marigold eyes, and her thin lion tail that ends in a frizzy trail of fur. Matching her mane is a big fluffy scarf wrapped around her neck, accompanied by a short-sleeved school uniform. Her uniform includes a badge, black undershirt, brown sweater vest, and purple argyle-print skirt and formal tie. On her legs are a pair of white, knee-high boots.
In Real Life
Locally extinct due to hunting and excessive habitat encroachment, in 1920, the last known Barbary Lion in Northern Africa was killed in Morocco. Currently, small populations are said to still exist in pockets around Algeria.
Second only to the Cape Lion, the Barbary Lion was said to have one of the most extensive and large manes compared to many other lion subspecies. Because of the locations in which these lions lived, the Atlas Mountains, the occurrence of much lower temperatures at the higher altitudes, especially in winter, led to the development and evolution of larger manes to better withstand the cold.
Although Lions are typically very social animals, the Barbary lion, due to even smaller populations sizes, have been known to form social groups much smaller than other African lion counterparts. Barbary lions were reported to either form pairs (a male and female), or a small group (a male, female, and a few cubs). However, many lions observed were noted to have been completely solitary.
Like other Sub-Saharan lions, the Barbary lion was an apex predator, and has a wide diet. It preys upon gazelles, wild boars, red deer, and Barbary stags. However, due to frequent interactions between two other apex predators, the African Leopard and Brown Bear, the Barbary lion was also known to prey on domestic livestock.
