Hippopotamus Gorgops is a type of extinct Friend that first appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game and got a redesign in Festival.
Appearance
In the new design, Hippopotamus Gorgops has feathered hair with edges tinted in yellow-brown color. She has thin eyebrows and bangs that curve around her head, representing a hippo's fangs. She is wearing a black & light blue wet suit with two golden rings on the bottom of her belly, representing the nostrils of the animal she's based on and a golden zipper attached on her back covering her tail. She is wearing swimming goggles that represent the creature's stalk-eyes. She has two pieces of hair on each side that go on top of her goggles, representing the top teeth of a hippo. She wears blue pants with the middle part being black, her knees have a black line that gets thinner through the middle with two circles on each side of it. She wears light blue slippers and has red eyes with small pupils.
In the old design, Hippopotamus Gorgops has short dark grey hair that reaches the back of her neck with edges tinted in blue. Her outfit is composed of a two-piece wet suit with a bean-shaped cleavage, and a small zipper on the back representing a hippo's tail. Her wetsuit's shoulders and top part of her legs have a portion of blue fading to yellow. She's holding binoculars with blue glasses that represent the stalk eyes. She has blue gloves, shoes and red eyes. Her wet suit has a black dot with spaced black outlines on the each side of the bottom of her wet suit, representing hippo nostrils, and a smaller black dot placed next to them. The two pieces of her suit are separated with a line that fades from yellow to blue, to yellow again.

In Real Life
Hippopotamus gorgops, also called Gorgon-eyed river horse, is an extinct species of hippopotamus. It first appeared in Africa during the late Miocene, and eventually migrated into Europe during the early Pliocene. It became extinct prior to the Ice Age. With a length of 4.3 metres (14 ft), a shoulder height of 2.1 metres (6.9 ft) and with a weight of 3,900 kilograms (8,600 lb) H. gorgops was much larger than its living relative, the common hippopotamus. Unlike its living relative, H. gorgops had eyestalk-like orbits extruding above its skull, making it even easier for the creature to see its surroundings while almost fully underwater.

- The Latin word "hippopotamus" is derived from the ancient Greek ἱπποπόταμος, hippopotamos, from ἵππος, hippos, "horse", and ποταμός, potamos, "river", meaning "horse of the river".
