Eurasian Otter Nexon Game

Eurasian Otter is a type of mammalian Friend that appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game.

Appearance

Eurasian Otter has short brown hair that is tied into a bun at the back, and turns white on her side bangs, and she has a small pair of lighter brown otter ears. The white section has protruding strands of hair to represent whiskers. She has dark aqua eyes, and silver oval-shaped glasses. Around her neck is a white fur collar. She wears a primarily brown one-piece swimsuit with a cutout on the side and a white stomach and chest area, a frilled top, and brown open toe socks. Her otter's tail is plain brown, and she carries a book that, interestingly, matches her eye color.

In Real Life

Eurasian Otters are semiaquatic mammals native to Eurasia. It hails from the weasel family Mustelidae. The habitat range is quite impressive, including parts of Asia and Africa, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Ireland, and even Andalusia. As with most otters and water-dwelling mustelids, their diet mainly consists of fish.

They are relatively large mustelids, normally being around 57 to 95 cm (22.5 to 37.5 in) long, with the tail adding another 35–45 cm (14–17.5 in). The average body weight is 7 to 12 kg (15 to 26 lb.), although occasionally a large old male may reach up to 17 kg (37 lb.). Regardless of weight, the females are shorter than males in length.

As mentioned previously, the Eurasian Otter's diet consists of mainly fish, especially in warmer environments and summer seasons. In the colder environments and seasons, they are known to eat it amphibians, crustaceans, insects, birds and sometimes small mammals. On occasion, they've been known to attack and eat large waterfowl such as the Greylag goose. Otters are perfectly capable of overpowering and killing prey significantly larger than themselves.

A solitary creature, Eurasian Otters and fiercely territorial. Territories are usually around 18 km (11 mi) long, though some can range as far as 40 km (25 mi). Boundaries are only held against members of the same sex, so those of males and females may overlap. Mating takes place in the water and, since they are seasonal breeders, it can take place at any time regardless of season. Litters are between one and four pups which are dependent on the mother for 13 months.

Trivia

  • Eurasian Otters are the most widespread member of the otter subfamily (Lutrinae)
  • It is the only otter in its habitat range, so it is rarely confused for other otter species
  • Other names include European otter, Eurasian river otter, common otter, and Old World Otter
  • X-Rays indicate their bones show osteosclerosis, increasing their density to reduce buoyancy
  • The record-sized specimen, reported by a reliable source but not verified, weighed over 24 kg (53 lb.)
