Domestic Dog (Mixed-Breed) Season 2 Pavilion KF3 Gallery

Domestic Dog (Mixed-Breed) is a type of mammalian Friend that debuted in the second season of the Kemono Friends anime. She has since appeared in Kemono Friends Pavilion.

Appearance

The Mixed-Breed Domestic Dog is very similar in pattern to Siberian Husky. The distribution of white remains the same, with the black being replaced by a light off-grey colour. Her harness is red as opposed to dark blue, and she has heterochromia, with one eye being orange-yellow and the other being the same light blue as Siberian Husky's. The tassels on her boot's laces are red.

The domestic dog is a type of canid that originated from a symbiotic relationship with Upper Paleolithic humans, and today remains one of the most widely kept domestic animals. They are thought to be the first domesticated species. According to archaeological record, early dog remains buried beside humans can be found dated anywhere from 14,700 to 36,000 years ago. This shows that the earliest dogs arose in the time of human hunter-gatherers.

Researchers have proposed that in the past a hunting partnership existed between humans and dogs that was the basis for dog domestication. Humans and dogs may have evolved together, with humans benefiting from the canid's loyalty, cooperation, teamwork, alertness, and tracking abilities, and the wolf benefiting from the use of weapons to tackle larger prey and the sharing of food. The fact that wolves are pack animals with cooperative social structures may have contributed to the development of the relationship.

A mixed breed is a domesticated dog descended from multiple breeds, often breeding without any human intervention, recordkeeping, or selective breeding. A dog whose ancestry is complex or not known is often colloquially known as a 'mutt' or a 'mongrel'. Although mixed breeds are viewed as of less commercial value than intentionally bred dogs, they are thought to be less susceptible to genetic health problems associated with inbreeding.

Dog crossbreeds, sometimes called designer dogs, also are not members of a single recognized breed. Unlike mixed-breeds, crossbreed dogs are often the product of artificial selection – intentionally created by humans, whereas the term mongrel specifically refers to dogs that develop by natural selection, without the planned intervention of humans.

The theory of hybrid vigor suggests that as a group, dogs of varied ancestry will be generally healthier than their purebred counterparts. In purebred dogs, deliberately breeding dogs with highly similar appearances over multiple generations results in animals carrying many of the same genes, some of which are harmful. If the breed's initial population was limited, its genetic diversity may have remained low for a long period. The population of purebred dogs is more fragile because of the lack of genetic diversity. Mixed dogs typically have superior genetic health. Healthy features have been lost in many purebred dog lines because many showdog breeders are more concerned with conformation - the physical characteristics of the dogs in conformity to the breed standard - than the health and working temperament for which the dog was originally created.

Trivia

  • The gray wolf is the dog's closest extant relative.
  • In Japanese, the mixed breed is referred to as 駄犬 (daken), literally 'burdensome dog'.
  • The Kennel Club (U.K.) operates a show called Scruffts, open only to mixed-breeds in which dogs are judged on character, health, and temperament.
  • Some American registries and dog clubs that accept mixed-breed dogs use the breed description All American.
  • In western countries, such as the United States, 44% of households have a pet dog.
