Different Kinds of Houses (Japanese: いろんなおうち) is the fourth episode of the second season of the Kemono Friends anime series. The episode features South Maerica Park, an area similar to the Savannah but based off of South America instead of Africa.

Summary

On their way to the next Japari Line station, Caracal asks Kyururu about what the next place in his sketchbook is like. His drawing shows strange black mounds with glowing green spots, which Kyururu believes is a city. He explains the concept of cities to the cats, who are surprised and think his home might be there. When Caracal wishes for more peril on their trip, she, unfortunately, gets what she asked for: the track fell out before them so they can't continue on the Japari Line. Serval teases Caracal by asking if she's happy now that there's danger, to which she denies. The pirate-themed Lucky Beast summoned a guide Lucky Beast nearby: a yellow Lucky Beast wearing a sombrero and poncho who greets them in Spanish and introduces them to South Maerica Park. When Kyururu says he wants to go back to his house, Yellow Lucky's search indicates there's no location called "house" within the park, which frustrates Kyururu and Caracal. Yellow Lucky is able to recognize the location in Kyururu's drawing and offers to take the trio there. The trio say their goodbyes to the pirate-themed Lucky Beast and make their way down from the rails using a rope Kyururu had.

The termite mounds the Lucky Beast brought the trio to.

Serval and Caracal note the similarities of South Maerica Park to the Savannah. Kyururu doesn't have any specific memories of the place. Yellow Lucky leads the trio to and explains the termite mounds, but they aren't a city and don't resemble the drawing. Yellow Lucky admits that only having a scan makes their results less precise, which disappoints Kyururu and Caracal. Unexpectedly, Aardwolf appears, excited to see the cats. Serval and Caracal are surprised to find Aardwolf in South Maerica Park. They explain they're helping Kyururu search for his home. Aardwolf explains she wanted to find a home in the area due to the similarities to the Savanna and heard of a Friend that could help her find a good place, even though it was a long trip from the Savanna as Caracal points out. Campo Flicker introduces herself and her love of real estate and offers to help Aardwolf and Kyururu find "the perfect nest". Caracal convinces Kyururu to accept as they'll explore many places in the area and possibly find Kyururu's home.

Camo Flicker takes the group out to various home locations in the area. First, they visit the previous home of Yellow-Rumped Cacique, a bird Friend which makes peculiarly shaped hanging nests. Aardwolf explains that she's looking for a home that's been lived-in and is easy to defend herself in. Campo Flicker explains the great view from the nests and the security measure: bees. Everyone besides Campo Flicker is scared off by the bees, and they try to let her down nicely by saying that this home is too small for them. She then offers to show them a different property which is much larger. They arrive at a raging waterfall which is said to be the previous home of Great Dusky Swift, another bird Friend. The group cling to the cliff face as Campo Flicker explains the property before moving on to the next one. In a quiet forest, she explains that Common Vampire Bat used to live in one of the nearby trees. Suddenly, a disturbing noise can be heard, scaring the group. Above them, Common Vampire Bat laughs and announces her presence. Campo Flicker apologizes for thinking that she didn't live there anymore. Common Vampire Bat then asks the group if they'd like to join her for a meal, but they flee. She pulls out a Japari Bun, disappointed that everyone ran away.

Giant Armadillo and Giant Pangolin are looking for Kyururu in the area. Sen-chan recognizes the scent of a human, while Arma is concerned about rain clouds intensifying in the are, leading to the two hastening their search. Aardwolf and Kyururu are discouraged they weren't able to find what they were looking for but try to assure Campo Flicker that it wasn't her fault. When it starts raining, the group takes shelter in a cave that she spots nearby. When they can't decide on games to pass the time, including a failed attempt at hide-and-seek by Serval, Kyururu makes a puzzle out of his drawing by cutting it up. The Friends find the game odd but impressive and have fun in putting it together. Aardwolf comments on it being a fun way to pass the time until the weather changed, and Caracal says that it ensured the drawing didn't go to waste. When the rain clears, Campo Flicker recognizes the place in the drawing, agreeing to lead them there.

Campo Flicker takes the rest of the group back to the termite mounds at night, revealing the sight shown in Kyururu's picture. Lucky Beast explains the green lights are generated by fire beetles, another kind of insect that lives in termite mounds. Caracal realizes that the Lucky Beast wasn't mistaken when he brought the group the termite mounds earlier in the day. Kyururu apologizes to Lucky Beast for misjudging his original conclusion. Aardwolf is impressed with the view of the termite mounds at night and decides she wants to live in the cave Campo Flicker found. She's happy to have been of help to Aardwolf even if it was by chance.

As Aardwolf leaves, Campo Flicker wants to help Kyururu find a home as well, but he declines. Giant Armadillo and Giant Pangolin burst out of the bushes, ready to seize Kyururu to bring to their client. Caracal intervenes, telling them they're being selfish. The detectives promise to not go down without a fight, but Caracal scares them into their defensive positions while the group leaves. They stay curled up past the dawn of the next day out of fear, thinking the group is still there.

The entrance to Jungle Park.

Serval, Caracal, Kyururu, and Campo Flicker make it to the Jungle Park. Campo Flicker, surprised to hear that Kyururu is a human, mentions she saw a human nearby before, just once, and that if they found them, they might find out more about where he lived. Kyururu gives Campo Flicker the drawing puzzle as a present before she leaves. Lucky Beast leaves with Campo Flicker, but not before introducing them to the Lucky Beast that will guide them through the Jungle Area: a grey Lucky Beast with a serious personality, equipped with holsters holding toy knives. The trio and the new Lucky Beast head off to find the human.
