Mammals are primarily distinguished from other animals by the presence of hair or fur, as well as mammary glands. Mammals are a highly diverse and successful class, having become Earth's dominant terrestrial organisms following the K-Pg extinction event, which wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs and left many ecological niches open to be filled. At least one mammal species can be found endemically on each of Earth's continents, or amongst its major geographical areas.

Mammal Friends are predominant within the Kemono Friends franchise; as of January 2026, there are approximately over twice as many mammal-based Friends than there are Friends based on all of birds, reptiles, and amphibians combined. As such, the list below is large and may include many special cases, such as the human Friend Kaban and an array of UMA Friends of different cultural origins, such as those based on foxes.
