A list of all Friends based on diverse, primarily-carnivorous mammals representing the family Mustelidae, known collectively as mustelids. Representatives of this family can be found across the globe, and they form the largest family of the Caniformia suborder. Mustelids are divided into eight extant subfamilies:
- Gulolinae, which consists of the formidable wolverine, sable, fisher, tayra, and the martens.
- Helictidinae, which consists of the ferret-badgers.
- Ictonychinae, which contains the grisons, the polecats, and several genera referred to as weasels (although at least one is more closely related to the polecats).
- Lutrinae, which consists of the semi-aquatic to highly-aquatic otters.
- Melinae, which consists of the hog badgers and the four Old World badger representatives of the genus Meles.
- Mellivorinae, which consists solely of the honey badger, also called the ratel.
- Mustelinae, which contains the ermines (including the stoat), ferrets, minks, and weasels.
- Taxidiinae, which consists solely of the American badger.
This list omits the weasel-like Kamaitachi trio, as they are ultimately based on yōkai.
