「地上でもっとも漆黒」と言われる、光をほぼ１００％吸収する漆黒の羽毛をもっているのがカタカケフウチョウ（オス）です。求愛ダンスの際の鮮やかな青い飾り羽が印象的ですが、この青色を目立たせるため、究極に黒くなったとも言われています。１種とされていましたが、新たに２種いるとする説も出ています。 「オオフウチョウはありえないくらいハデで、ゴクラクしててカワイイね。わたしはシックにキめたいカンじだから、クロをキワめるの。ダンスもハゲしくなの。カンザシフウチョウはライバルなのだけど、イッショにオドって、クラヤミをテらすヒｔカリのハナになるの」	{{{endescription}}}
