ウミネコはカモメの仲間ですが留鳥なので、日本では1年中見ることができます。カモメのくちばしは黄色ですが、ウミネコは先端が赤く、黒い斑紋が入るのが特徴で、見分けるポイントになります。和名は鳴き声が「ミャーオ、ミャーオ」とネコに似ているところからつきました。 「『うみゃ？』わたしのこと、呼びまして？ネコじゃないけどウミネコです。カモメちゃんと似てる、って言われるけど、けっこう違うんですよ。カモメちゃんは飛び方の研究に熱心で気が付くといなくなっちゃうんだけど…わたしは近所をノンビリ散策して、季節が変わるのを感じるのが好き」	{{{endescription}}}
