Lake Shore (Japanese: こはん) is the fifth episode of the Kemono Friends anime series. It introduces Black-Tailed Prairie Dog and North American Beaver.
Summary
Lucky follows the road with the Japari Bus to the Lake Shore, a place builded by the beavers which offer a beautiful view to the visitors in vehicles. Curious, Serval asks Boss how he can drives the Japari Bus without touching it, he answers that the bus is semi-automatically driving through a wireless link to him, but can still be manually driven and asks Serval and Kaban if they want to try. Kaban denied the demand, however, full of excitement, Serval takes the seat and drive the vehicle by herself. She follows the straight road but accidentally hit the trunk of a tree which shove other trunks, making a new Friend immediatly scream in panic.
The new Friend introduces herself as North American Beaver, nicknamed Beaver. Beaver plans to build a wooden house on the Lake, by her instinct nature, she has an idea on the way of doing it, nonetheless she gets easily anxious when she has to start because of the amount of work she has to face, and ends up panicking. Moreover, the ressources she possess come from the professor, she needs to pay back the professor on japari buns. While Beaver starts to loose hope, Kaban and Serval decide to help her to find more ressources in the nearest forest for her house.
The group head to the bus to visit the forest, beaver overthink before their trip even started. During the journey inside the forest, lucky fill the duty he was programmed for and presents the wild while they are on a straight road, such as a long-tailed tit's nest or a megapode nest. All these informations bonds with Beaver's situation, she'd prefered a smaller house before her transformation as a Friend, now she needs more space for her new body.
When they reach the perfect place to collect the ressources, Serval accidently hit a hole and fall, they suddenly hear the sound of a unknown Friend screaming for help. A Friend is burried in one of the many holes digged in the area, they help her to get out. The new Friend immediatly get angry on them thinking they tried to burried her alive, but quickly apologize when she realized it was her fault. She presents herself as Black-Tailed Prairie Dog, she gives the special greeting prairie tradition to the group.
Prairie dog also has the idea to build a dwelling, she search a calm and nice looking place for her to live, however each times she tries to dig holes for her house, the ground keeps collapsing on her. Worried, Beaver explained how the ground become weaker because of prairie dog's holes. The group decides to give assistance to prairie dog after they cut the necessary trees for beaver's house, prairie dog wants to help them.
Beaver overthink about the right tree to cut at the right length, but get stressful about it, nonetheless prairie dog charge ahead and begins to help but collapsed trees on Kaban and Serval accidentally. Beaver stops her and teachs prairie dog the proper way to cut a tree and choose the direction of the fall. Prairie dog follows the advice and cut all the trees needed for the group in seconds.
After the work done, the group goes back to Lake Shore. While Beaver is planning the ressources she has, prairie dog visits the landscape for her futur house. Beaver starts to get anxious about the work to do, she asks Kaban and Serval to watch over prairie dog instead. When they find prairie dog, she was once again burried in a hole she made. Kaban and Serval return to see beaver, but discover that she haven't started her house because of her anxiouness. Kaban suggests her to make a smaller prototype of the house the visualize it before the construction. Both beaver and prairie dog's situation get worse each time Kaban and Serval make round trips, they all decide to take a rest together and eat japari buns. While beaver and prairie dog share their issues, Kaban comes with the idea that they must work together to reach their goal, with prairie on the constructions while beaver makes the model and concentrates on giving directions.
They plan together to build a house in the middle of the lake on a small area where prairie dog can digs a hole that will be connected to a ladder to reach the room of the house and hidden entrances underground. The group follows beaver's orders to build the house, along the way strong affinity are growing between Prairie dog and beaver. Afterwards, the house is finally done, the Friends take their time to visit it and have fun together before they share their last words, and Kaban and Serval leave Lake shore with the japari Bus to continue their adventures.
Fennec Fox and Raccoon climb the mountain together to visit Alpaca's café and encounter Suri Alpaca and Crested Ibis.
While they continue their trip, Serval enjoy the bed that beaver and prairie dog builded for them before they leave when suddenly the bus get assaulted by two unknown Friends.
