Category:Reptile Friends: Difference between revisions

A list of all Friends based on ectothermic tetrapods which form the class Reptilia, and are collectively known as reptiles. Traditionally, Reptilia is divided into four orders:

• Crocodilia, which is composed of the predatory, semi-aquatic crocodilians: alligators, caimans, crocodiles, gharials, and false gharials.
• Rhynchocephalia, which contains only one extant member: the tuatara.
• Squamata, which is composed of the lizards and snakes.
• Testudines, which is composed of the shelled reptiles collectively known as turtles. Note that, despite a distinction being made between the two in common vernacular, tortoises are also a type of turtle, and thus are also included in this order.

Friends who are based on dragons are not to be included on this list, as dragons are not included within the class Reptilia, nor are they in fact scientifically classified at all. Despite displaying traits commonly associated with reptiles, dragons cannot be fairly compared with any one taxonomic group, due to the highly variable nature by which they are depicted in and by cultures around the world.
