The Panther Chameleon is a type of reptile Friend who has made appearances in the 2015 Nexon Mobile Game and Kemono Friends Anime.

Chameleon's outfit is a green school uniform with white accents and ribbon, alongside a black sash. Underneath her skirt, she wears black compression shorts. She also has several ninja themed pieces on her costume, such as a hood with an armored 'crown', which has scales, gauntlets, which also has scales, and bandaged legs with sandals. Her hair is green and yellow, tied in a ponytail which coils around to resemble a chameleon's tail, and has red eyes. Like other Friends she has a tail that resembles that of her animal form.

In Real Life

Exhibiting some of the most spectacular color vision of all chameleons, the large-bodied panther chameleon is highly sought after by reptile keepers. Interestingly, populations from different locations within this species's range each have a particular coloration and patterning which is most pronounced during courtship or defensive displays. Male panther chameleons from the Madagascan island of Nosy Be, for example, have uniform striking blue-green, emerald-green, or turquoise-green bodies, whereas males from the north-west coast are vivid pink, with a yellowish white stripe along the flanks. In contrast, female panther chameleons are are mostly dull, uniform grey, brown or faint green. Males reach a length of up to 23 cm and females up to 13.5 cm. Panther Chameleon's are native to Madagascar and is found in coastal regions and islands of North and East central Madagascar. They inhabit mainly lowland and humid forests.

Panther chameleons are adept climbers. On each foot, the five toes are fused into a group of two and a group of three giving them a tong-like appearance. These specialized feet allow the panther chameleon a tight grip on narrow branches. Each toe is equipped with a claw to gain traction on surfaces such as tree bark when climbing. Their eyes are also the most distinctive among the reptiles and function like a gun turret. The upper and lower eyelids are joined with only a pinhole large enough for the pupil to see through. They can rotate and focus separately to observe two different objects simultaneously as their eyes are able to move independently from each other. Panther chameleons' tongues are very long, sometimes longer than their own body, which they are capable of rapidly extending out of the mouth. The tongue extends at about 26 body lengths per second and hits the prey in about 0.0030 seconds. The tongue is a complex arrangement of bone, muscle and sinew. At the base, a bone is shot forward, giving it its initial momentum, at the tip, a muscular club-like structure covered in thick mucus forms a suction cup. Once the tip sticks to a prey, it is drawn quickly drawn back into the mouth where the chameleon crushes and consumes it. The Panther chameleon typically eats bugs and other invertebrates but while kept in captivity should eat a varied diet of crickets, silkworms, roaches, and waxworms.
