Jungle Area (Japanese: じゃんぐるちほー) is the second episode of the Kemono Friends anime series. It introduces Asian Small-Clawed Otter and Jaguar.
Summary
Serval is surprised to hear Lucky speak. Kaban introduces herself to him and tells him she would like to visit the library. Boss begins an explanation of Japari Park and its different areas, causing Kaban to become sleepy. Upon seeing the feather on Kaban's hat, Boss begins playing a short message in a different, less robotic voice before Kaban drifts off to sleep. Serval attempts to start a conversation with Boss on her own, to no avail.
When Kaban wakes up, Boss plans a route to Japari Library in the Forest Area. Due to the considerable distance, Kaban and Serval agree to find the Japari Bus near Unin Bridge. Along the way, Boss guides them through a tour of the Jungle area where they are briefly introduced to many different Friends.
After walking for some time, the path disappears and Boss begins to stutter, unable to lead them the correct way. They stop next to the river where they meet Asian Small-Clawed Otter playing by sliding into the water. Kaban and Serval tell Otter their predicament, and Otter suggests they wait for Jaguar to pass by so they can catch a ride on her raft. To pass the time, they sunbathe and follow Otter's example of juggling rocks. They get so immersed they almost miss Jaguar as she passes by, but manage to call out to her at the last minute.
Jaguar gives them a ride to Unin Bridge, which is currently in pieces. Exiting onto the shore, Boss leads the group to the Japari Bus, only to find it missing the driver's seat. Jaguar recalls seeing something similar on the opposite side of the river. They cross with the raft to take a look, and Boss confirms it is the missing half. They try thinking of a way to get this piece over to the other side, as the river is too wide for Serval to jump across, and the bus is too heavy to carry and swim at the same time.
Kaban notices the posts that would have supported the bridge in the past and explains her idea to the other Friends. They gather up the broken bridge and Kaban devises a pulley system out of a length of rope nearby. She ties the rope to the pieces of the bridge, then has Jaguar and Otter tie one end of the rope to one of the poles and bring it back. Kaban and Serval then pull on the rope, pulling the bridge pieces back into place over the water. Now with enough space, Serval jumps from one tile to the next while carrying the half of the bus.
The two parts of the bus are united, and the Friends marvel at the completed bus. Bus hops in and engine revs up for a moment before shutting down. Boss reports that the battery is dead, but can be charged in the Cafe at the top of a nearby mountain. Kaban and Serval anticipate how they will reach the top. The shadow of a flying Friend can be seen passing overhead.
