|reallife=The Koala is a marsupial native to Eastern Australia. With the specimens weighing up to 15 kg, the Koala is one of the largest tree-dwelling marsupial in the world. The Koala also sports one of the smallest brain to body mass ratio of any mammal. A Koala’s diet consists mainly of Eucalyptus leaves, which are lacking in nutrients (and considerably toxic). As a result, the Koala generally spends 20 hours a day sleeping, to save energy. Another result of this diet is their exceptionally long Caecum: food can take up to 200 hours to fully digest. This extra-long Caecum is important in the production of pap, a supplementary food source used to wean Koala babies off of their mother’s milk | |||
