土の中を好み、穴があるとすぐ入ってしまう習性があります。また、シロアリ探しの名人で、シロアリが土の中で出す音や匂いを手がかりに探し出します。シロアリを捕まえるために舌は長く大きく発達しましたが、一方で噛む必要がなくなり歯は退化しました。
