“I love to play! Balls, ring toss, people's toys are fun! I'm going to be riding on the waves! People playing around, I'm obsessed! I can hear a pleasant voice at the same time. Mix me too! (Pew!)”
Commerson Dolphin's introduction

Commerson's Dolphin is a type of mammalian Friend that first appeared in the Weiß Schwarz TCG. She has since appeared in Kemono Friends Pavilion.

Appearance

Commerson’s Dolphin has bright blue eyes and black and white hair. On the top of her head is a black dorsal fin, with a white stripe underneath it. Underneath the stripe is another black section of hair, with two fins on the sides of her head and a blowhole at the front. The rest of her short hair is white. She has a black fluked tail with white on the bottom.

She is in a short-sleeved ballerina dress with a white lower half and black at the top curving in an M-shape round her chest, in addition to frilly skirt part. She wears white safety shorts, white ankle socks and split-front black boots. Her accessories are a black necklace with a white tear-shaped pendant resembling the white pattern at the animal's throat and an oversized red-and-white striped bracelet resembling a hula hoop.

Commerson's dolphins are a very distinctive dolphin species with black on the head, fin and flipper parts and largely white at the throat and the rest of the body. The dorsal fin is small and with rounded tip. The beak is unnoticeably small. They are very active and rapid swimmers. They leap from water and also spin and twist while swimming. They are also known to swim upside-down, which is thought to help spot their preys.

Being one of the smallest dolphins they reach up to 1.2 to 1.7 m (3.9 to 5.6 ft.) in length, with females are typically larger than males. They can weighs up to 35 to 60 kg (77 to 132 lbs.).

Commerson's dolphins have two distinct subspecies living apart from each other. The main subspecies can be found off the southern coast of South America and another in shallow wasters near the Kerguelen Islands, a group of sub-Antarctic islands in the south of Indian Ocean. The reason for the two populations being separated such a long distance is still unknown. The dolphins appear to be opportunistic, feeding on mix of coastal and pelagic fish and squids. The South American population also feeds on crustaceans.

There is no adequate data of their global populations but they are considered to be locally common.

Trivia

  • Commerson's Dolphin is named after the French naturalist, Dr Philibert Commerson, who first described them in 1767.
