Desert Warthogs are a species of pigs native to the horn of Africa. They're around 130 cm long and 80 cm tall, weighing about 70-120 kilograms. They're brown though they often appear grey after a mudbath. Their head is long and flat with two canines sticking out of the sides at the front and more wart-like protrusions on the sides of the face giving them their name. As the name suggests, they prefer drier habitats without any undergrowth or forests. They're tolerant to heat but not the cold. A mane of long hair grows from the spine.
Desert Warthogs are largely herbivorous, eating plants, fruits, flowers and uing their tusks to dig up tubers and roots. If plant matters is scarce, they also eat insects and carrion. Because their neck is short compared to their legs, they have to kneel to graze and dig for food. Females live in groups called "sounders" together with their offspring while males live by themselves or in bachelor groups. The sounders have multiple burrows in their home range, either dug out by themselves or taken over from other animals. Home ranges may overlap and groups may use the same burrows at different times.
Desert Warthogs breed in March to May after the raining season. Both males and females will mate with multiple partners. After a gestation period of around 170 days, 2-3 piglets are born. They will first leave the burrows after 3 weeks and are weaned at 3 months of age, though they will still depend on their mothers for a few more months. When in danger, the young will dive headfirst into their burrows while adults turn around to defend the entrance with their strong tusks. The warthogs are known to viciously defend their young and themselves as they lack speed and endurance to run away successfully.
Kemono Friends' Desert Warthogs first appeared in a magazine in reference to the start of the Chinese year of the pig alongside a redesigned Giant Forest Hog. She has light brown hair with the wart-like protrusions stick out on the side of her head and white hair resembling the animals tusks. A wears black hair resembling the mane on the animals spine in a ponytail and she has a brown pignose hairpin in next to one of her animal ears. She wears an outfit resembling an office-lady with a white long-sleeved blouse and a grey vest along a black skirt and shining grey high heels. She was added to Pavilions roster shortly after her reveal. Her unique behavior has her using the Aerobike to exercise.
