King Cheetah is a Friend who appears in Kemono Friends Kingdom as a major but unplayable character.
Personality
Competitive to a fault, King Cheetah loves to race and enjoys receiving admiration from others. Her strength and speed are no joke; they lend themselves well to her position as the leader of the Plains Patrol, and she loves to be praised for her aptitude. However, this also has a consequence: because she is so talented, no one wants to race her, feeling as though the result of such a match is effectively predetermined. Driven by a sense of ennui, she sets out to become a King, and along this journey learns that pure self-interest isn't going to be enough to fill her void, forcing her to reassess her ideals and grow as a person.
Though she can be self-centered and likes to be a winner, King Cheetah is honorable in defeat, valuing the sport of a race over its outcome; despite losing to Jinri in a footrace, she expresses no hard feelings.
Role in the Plot
Main Story
King Cheetah is first encountered during Chapter 2 of the main story, wherein she meets the trio of Jinri, Chevrotain, and Least Weasel after they are detained by members of her Plains Patrol. She challenges the group to a race, with Jinri deciding a relay race should be held; the race makes it all the way to its end phase, with Jinri and King Cheetah spinning around sticks to make themselves dizzy before racing to the finish line—an activity which King Cheetah finds extremely fun and gets hopelessly carried away with, spinning around and around far more than necessary. Suddenly, a Cellien ambush interrupts the finale, and King Cheetah finds herself too dizzy to defend herself properly; luckily, she is saved with guidance from Jinri, who pulls her out of harm's way and directs her attack so as to hit their assailant. The morning after this encounter, King Cheetah declares that she intends to accompany Jinri and company to the Desert Castle to meet its King and earn herself the very same title. In her stead, she appoints Arabian Oryx, Aurochs and White Rhinoceros as the de facto leaders of the Plains Patrol, regularly rotating their leadership duties.
When the quartet arrives at their destination, they quickly learn the rule of the castle: only those who can clear its labyrinth within a time limit can meet with the King. With help from Tsuchinoko, the group makes its way through the castle's maze and approaches the button to stop the timer, but is stopped short of their finish line by African Rock Python—the Guard of Desert Castle. Her whip keeps the adventurers at bay, and when King Cheetah tries to use her sheer speed to get past the defender, that very same whip snares her leg and stops her cold. As African Rock Python derides the feline Friend for her selfish motives for seeking a King's title, a burst of resolve swells within King Cheetah, who realizes it isn't just her dream for which she is running—she's also doing it for Jinri, Chevrotain, and Least Weasel, who would miss their chance to consult the King's wisdom if she failed to stop the timer. With this, she finds the strength to overpower African Rock Python's coils and reach the timer, which the guardian applauds as she inquires into how it felt for King Cheetah to use her speed for the sake of others; this causes the Plains Patrol leader to adopt a state of introspection.
