Tsuchinoko is a Friend that appears in Kemono Friends Kingdom.
Personality
“Maybe I would finally get discovered one day?”
—Tsuchinoko's profile
The reclusive Tsuchinoko rarely ventures beyond the shadows of Desert Castle. Those who encounter her are typically met with a hiss and a piercing glare before the mysterious Friend slips into the darkness. This can make her seem scary, but her disposition flips when given a gift of wine or treasure, or shown a historical artifact. She's happy as a clam when she has a good drink, and her oft-narrowed eyes light up when shown a shiny coin or a piece of Kingdom's past. However, when the booze runs dry or the moment of discovery has since passed, she returns to her typical irritability before long.
Truthfully, Tsuchinoko is an anxious Friend who wishes to socialize, but finds the task daunting. She prefers engaging others on her own terms and resents being dragged into social situations, especially the noisy kind. She can be standoffish when caught out or cornered, but will often stick around even if she claims she would rather be anywhere else. If this cryptid Friend truly wants to leave, she will put her knack for quietly vanishing to good use. She also has a deep dedication to Desert Castle, risking her life to aid in its defense from a Cellien attack.
Tsuchinoko is well-read and enjoys losing herself in books, being a frequent visitor of the Japari Library. Her knowledge and shrewdness may contribute to a superiority complex she has over Kingdom's more carefree Friends, though she has learned to appreciate the ideas of others over time, especially after the events of Treasures Beyond the Horizon.

Role in the Plot
Main Story
First appearing in the opening cut-scene of Chapter 3, where she is seen investigating a mural before being interrupted by African Rock Python, Tsuchinoko does not meet Jinri and her companions until Chapter 3, Story-12: The Missing Bun, encountering the party in the great maze of the Desert Castle.
Jinri and company seek to meet the Desert Castle's king in her throne room, but must clear the castle's massive labyrinth within an allocated time frame in order to do so. They leave a Kingdom Bun crumb trail to mark their path, so as to avoid repeating failed routes, but find themselves turned around regardless when it is discovered that their Kingdom Bun trail has vanished. Tsuchinoko, the perpetrator, quickly makes herself known, acknowledging that she had been following the group and gobbling up Kingdom Bun pieces shortly after Jinri had dropped them. Tsuchinoko retreats into the shadow of a pillar when King Cheetah and Least Weasel begin to noisily lambaste her, but is drawn out by Jinri's gentle demeanor. She learns about the party's goals and agrees to use her extensive knowledge of the maze to help them reach their destination before their timer runs out. Leading the group down a shortcut, she gets them to the throne room's entrance with time to spare, but vanishes into the maze of shadows when the party is stopped short by African Rock Python, the acting guard of Desert Castle.
Tsuchinoko reappears shortly thereafter when, as Jinri's conversation with King Cobra is interrupted by a deep rumbling from within the maze, they hear Tsuchinoko crying out and warning of an incoming rush of water and Celliens. She flies through the open door of the throne room at breakneck speed as African Rock Python slams the door shut behind her. Tsuchinoko explains that she has been investigating the structure of the Desert Castle's maze, and that one of the labyrinth walls is connected to a reservoir of the Silent River; Celliens have broken this wall, causing a crashing wave of water and Celliens to sweep through the maze corridors. She assists King Cobra, African Rock Python, and King Cheetah in defending against the Cellien attack as Jinri, Least Weasel, and Chevrotain are directed to escape on a boat.
Treasures Beyond the Horizon
During the Treasures Beyond the Horizon event, Tsuchinoko is a central character, accompanying the player and company to a mountain said to house a great treasure.
Relationships
African Rock Python
Tsuchinoko is fearful of African Rock Python, who- as the guard of the Desert Castle- doesn't take kindly to Tsuchinoko's meddling in the maze.
Eurasian Eagle-Owl
Tsuchinoko wishes to be able to grow closer with Eurasian Eagle-Owl, but finds it difficult to approach the blunt and ever-stoic owl Friend.
Jinri
Upon their first meeting, Tsuchinoko quickly takes an interest in Jinri upon learning she is a human. When Jinri shows kindness to Tsuchinoko even after she had ruined the Kingdom Bun trail the child had set out for navigation, and even while her own party members are irate towards the cryptic Friend, Tsuchinoko becomes fond of her.
Least Weasel
The quiet, standoffish Tsuchinoko and the loud, brazen Least Weasel find themselves at odds with one another, with Tsuchinoko deliberately ignoring Least Weasel's comments and questions as the party is led through the Desert Castle's maze and Least Weasel returning the favor following the siege on Desert Castle.
Panther Chameleon
Tsuchinoko takes on Panther Chameleon as a drinking buddy, and enthusiastically regales her with stories about ninjas of old.
PPP
Tsuchinoko seems somewhat fond of the idol group's music, though she won't readily admit it, in part due to a shyness about her own singing voice.
Sand Cat
While Sand Cat's ditzy personality can come into conflict with Tsuchinoko's crabby exterior, Tsuchinoko finds it difficult to stay angry with the feline Friend even when her catty antics cause trouble for the snake. During the events of Treasures Beyond the Horizon, the two grow closer as they cross desert, river and mountain alike in search of treasure.

All Friends' ATK +10% for 7 rounds. The Friend that activates this combo gains extra +42% ATK for 1 round. |
Strategy
- Tsuchinoko is at her best when paired with the members of her Combo. When she activates the Beach's First Wish Combo effect, she gains what is effectively +52% ATK: a massive boost which her damage can be underwhelming without.
- Additionally, the Dice-generating capabilities of her Combo members possess a valuable synergy with her Miracle's damage requirements- there is no such thing as too many Dice for this snake.
- Friends who generate large amounts of Dice, such as Silver Fox and Fennec, are also good partners for Tsuchinoko.
- It is advisable for at least some of the Friends who are tasked with supporting Tsuchinoko via Dice generation to run A Throw of Fate as their Album, as this will increase their Dice output and the values of the individual Dice.
- It is additionally helpful to boost Tsuchinoko with a supporting Friends' use of the Shining Assist Album, as its powerful ATK-boosting effect is even stronger when used to buff Assaulter Friends such as Tsuchinoko.
- Tsuchinoko should run the Dice Cannon Album above any others. In lieu, Lord of the Hunt can be run, but Dice Cannon will always be preferred.
- The best Attribute for an Album run by Tsuchinoko is Sharp, as this maximizes Tsuchinoko's PATK. Because she will normally be sent out at the end of a battle to destroy a Boss without taking a hit herself, the defensive stats granted by Attributes such as King are generally without much use, and trade off their offensive stats in exchange for said defensive stats. Note that the Sharp Attribute grants more PATK than any other Attribute does, including King.
- Tsuchinoko's first and fifth Breakthoughs increase her Miracle DMG by 1% for every 4000 Fluorites owned by the player, up to a +40% (Breakthrough I) or +90% (Breakthrough V) boost. As such, a player seeking to use Tsuchinoko frequently should try to keep at least 160,000 Fluorites on hand if she has Breakthrough I - IV, or at least 360,000 Fluorites on hand if she has reached Breakthrough V.
- If Tsuchinoko is being used as the finishing blow in a Raid, her third Habit- Drunken Ultimate- is generally ill-advised for use if a player intends to maximize their score, due to how the Habit adjusts damage calculations. The effect is meant to allow Tsuchinoko to destroy enemies faster with an immediate powerful strike, as to prevent a counterattack- which the Boss should not be able to perform anyways, if Tsuchinoko is meant to be the one to destroy it with her Miracle- and this is fine in a Story mode setting where there may be numerous Celliens present. However, the overall damage done, which is what Raid scores depend on, is actually reduced by this effect, since rather than delivering several weaker strikes followed by a massive strike- which deals more than enough damage to kill the Boss, resulting in a higher score from the overkill damage- an attack performed with Drunken Ultimate performs a supercharged strike first, meaning the Boss may be defeated by that attack alone, or will be destroyed after one weak follow-up hit; the player misses out on the extra damage racked up by landing all of the weaker attacks, as well as the overkill damage dealt when the biggest hit is the final hit.
- Tsuchinoko can struggle to reach high scores in Raids against Bosses composed of multiple parts, particularly which do not possess the Plant archetype, such as Wind-Eroded Nest. This is because her first Habit is ineffective against multi-part Bosses, her second Habit only works against Plant-type Celliens- even nerfing her damage against Fluid-type Celliens- and her third Habit is generally ill-advised in Raids, as mentioned. If a player simply seeks to clear a Raid, and is not particularly concerned about how high they can get on the leaderboard, then this third Habit can be used against such multi-part Bosses to clear them effectively.
