The New Zealand Giant Penguin is an extinct species of penguin, which was native to Antarctica and New Zealand roughly 35 million years ago. It was one of of several genera within the subfamily of giant penguins, identified from fossils found in these areas as well as within South America, and all of whom went extinct long ago.
Few details are known about the species, apart from the fact that they would have been truly immense specimens; they were the second-tallest penguins ever, at 5 feet/140-160 cm, and the heaviest penguins ever— at 80 to 100 kilograms, they weighed as much as the average adult male.
