A Silver Fox Friend appears in Chapter 14 of the Kemono Friends Manga. In her only appearance, she joins the group trip to the Riukiu area and helps translate what Shisa Right says for everyone.
Personality
Silver Fox is a girl who's happy to help with translating Okinawan, but also gets a kick out of giving someone intentionally silly translations, like when she admitted to Nana that her "Great, more happy-go-lucky idiots turning up. The nerve!" translation of Shisa Right's greeting was actually the more normal "Welcome!" "Hello" and "Nice to meet you". She is superstitious and was bold enough to claim the shisa girls for herself when she learned that they could protect against misfortune and bring good fortune.
Role in the Plot
Silver Fox accompanies Nana, Serval, and Ezo Red Fox on their group trip to the Riukiu area. When their shisa guides appear and greet everyone in Okinawan, Nana is confused about what was said and Silver Fox eagerly volunteers to translate. She says that Shisa Right greeted them by saying "Great, more happy-go-lucky idiots turning up. The nerve!" Nana expresses doubt over the translation and Silver Fox reveals that they actually said "Welcome!" "Hello" and "Nice to meet you". Silver Fox goes on to say that "Stiff translations aren't my thing." Nana thanks the shisas for being their guides and Shisa Right replies in Okinawan. Silver Fox translates the reply as "It's a pain in the butt, but if I must, I'll let you rely on me." Nana thinks to herself that the translation must be wrong and doesn't say anything.
The group is then lead to the aquarium where Shisa Right says that they'll be getting a special tour. Silver Fox and Ezo Red Fox take a look at the spotted garden eels exhibit and watch the eels who are partially burrowed into the sand. Silver Fox notices Ezo Red Fox eating something and after asking about it, Ezo Red Fox says the she got some taiyaki.
The group moves on to the gift shop and Silver Fox takes interest in a shisa ornament. She asks if they're for warding off evil, and Shisa Right explains that a shisa with and open mouth placed on the right invites good fortune and a shisa with a closed mouth placed on the left will ward off misfortune. Silver Fox then declares that she'll be taking home the two shisa girls themselves and grabs Shisa Right by the arm.
On the train ride home, true to her word, Silver Fox has brought both Shisas aboard the train and they surprise Nana when she realizes they've come too.
Relationships
Shisa Right
Silver Fox meets the shisas on the group trip to Riukiu and volunteers to translate what Shisa Right says for everyone. Later, she speaks with Shisa Right to ask her about the effects of shisa ornaments. When Shisa Right explains that shisas will ward off misfortune and invite good fortune, Silver Fox claims the shisa girls for herself and they willingly come with her on the train trip home. It is not known if both girls returned to Riukiu, or if they went on to live with Silver Fox.
Nana
Silver Fox meets Nana on the group trip to Riukiu and helps her by translating what Shisa Right says. Nana however, is immediately skeptical of her translations and is confused by her rationale for translations. Nana doesn't trust Silver Fox's last translation and decides to look into it herself later. Outside of translation help, Nana doesn't speak with Silver Fox about anything else.
