Quagga is a friend that first appeared in Kemono Friends (2015 Mobile Game)

Appearance

Quagga has purple eyes, with a zebra-like striped pattern on her long hair, fading to brown towards the tips, and is tied-up in a ponytail by a big scarlet red ribbon. Befitting her species, she has a pair of white animal ears with a black spot on top, and a long tufted tail that is primarily brown, but fades to white towards the end. She has purple eyes which, like other extinct friends, are depicted with no shine.

Quagga wears a double-breasted brown coat with long white sleeves, black buttons and cuffs on the arms, and a few black stripes on the shoulders. Underneath this she wears a white collared shirt with a red bowtie. She wears a light brown plaid skirt with white edging over brown tights that are white in the lower half. Her ankle boots are folded at the top, and are black and light brown.

In Real Life

A Quagga mare living at the London Zoo in 1870. The only Quagga to have been photographed alive.

The Quagga is extinct, believed to be caused by overhunting by humans for their skin and meat. The presumed last quagga died in captivity in The ARTIS Royal Zoo in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The quagga was exclusive to South Africa until the late 19th century in plains and pastures, near water sources. They mainly subsided on grass, occasionally eating leaves, herbs, and fruit. The quagga was a sub-species of the Plains Zebra, as they share the same DNA. They were known to be social animals, having beneficial relationships with the Ostrich and Wildebeest to protect each other from predators.

Trivia

• The quagga was the first extinct animal to have its DNA analysed.
• There are only five known photographs of the quagga, all of the same one, taken at the London Zoo in 1870.
