In Real Life
The Crested Ibis, also referred to as Japanese Crested Ibis or Toki, is a large member of the Ibis subfamily, and the only member of the genus Nipponia. Once roaming an expansive range over east Asia, the Crested Ibis is now the undisputed most endangered of it's subfamily due to deforestation, only being able to survive in small populations in Shaanxi, China.
The species has many definitive physical features, such as their bare heads, curved beaks, red facial skin, and beautiful crests. Their plumage color varies depending on the time of year. During breeding season, their feathers change to a medley of greys, which would otherwise be a bright white.
Crested Ibis follows an interesting niche, traveling between habitats depending on their current needs. They build nests and breed in the tall trees of pine forests, and move to wetlands and agricultural areas for foraging. They feed almost exclusively off small marine animals, such as fish, crabs, beetles, mollusks, and frogs.
