The Common Ostrich is a type of bird Friend that appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game.

Appearance

Common Ostrich's old design has long straight dark blond hair that reaches at least below the shoulders with two bangs on her sides. She holds a veil in behind her hair attached to a sapphire. Her top is composed of a fluffy dark scarf, a sleeveless black and purple sailor top with long black arm warmers and a large purple bow attached to it. She wears a wide circular black skirt with pressed-in ridges and purple fur around the edges, dark blond thigh-high socks and brown loafers. As the other bird Friends, She also has her wings and tail that belongs to her specie. As an extra, she holds a golden egg in her hands.

Unlike the old design, Common Ostrich's new design has whiter hair with shade of pink on the tip of her front fringe, a white crystal instead of a sapphire and an extra white scarf that turns pink at the tips. She wears pink thigh-high socks and white high-heeled footwear, her tail and her wings are longer than the old design.

Struthio camelus(Common Ostrich) male and females

Ostriches are large, flightless birds that have long legs and a long neck that protrudes from a round body. Males have bold black-and-white coloring that they use to attract females. Females, on the other hand, are light brown. Ostriches are bigger than any other bird in the world. They can grow up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and can weigh up to 320 lbs. (145 kilograms), according to the African Wildlife Foundation, and an ostrich's eyes are 2 inches (5 centimeters) in diameter — the largest of any land animal.

The ostrich is the only bird that has two toes on each foot. All other birds have three or four toes, according to the American Ostrich Association. Autrichs can run at up to about 70 km/h, the fastest land speed of any bird. The common ostrich is the largest living species of bird and lays the largest eggs of any living bird. An ostrich's powerful, long legs can cover 10 to 16 feet in a single stride. These legs can also be formidable weapons. Ostrich kicks can kill a human or a potential predator like a lion. Each two-toed foot has a long, sharp claw.

Ostriches are omnivorous birds that consume a mix of meat and plants that they forage, although they usually prefer the latter. Some common elements of the ostrich diet are fallen fruit, seeds, shrubs, shoots, gourds, dry and hard foliage, frogs, roots, plants, tortoises, tiny lizards and bugs such as locusts. In terms of fruit, ostriches eat a lot of wild figs and berries.

Contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand. The old saw probably originates with one of the bird's defensive behaviors. At the approach of trouble, ostriches will lie low and press their long necks to the ground in an attempt to become less visible. Their plumage blends well with sandy soil and, from a distance, gives the appearance that they have buried their heads in the sand.

Trivia

Struthio camelus(Common Ostrich)
  • The common ostrich shares the order Struthioniformes with the kiwis, emus, rheas, and cassowaries. However, phylogenetic studies have shown that it is the sister group to all other members of Palaeognathae and thus the flighted tinamous are the sister group to the extinct moa.
