Keroro is the main protagonist from Sgt. Frog aka Keroro Gunso (ケロロ軍曹, "Sergeant Keroro"), a Japanese manga series created by Mine Yoshizaki, the same artist who has created Kemono Friends franchise.

The small, green-body, frog-like alien (called 'Keronions' who live in Planet Keron) who wears yellow, Imperial Japanese Army-style headgear with a red star in the middle, is the leader of the Keroro Platoon, as indicated by the yellow star on his white belly. The original Keroro Platoon members include Giroro, Dororo, Kururu and Tamama. Their initial plan was to survey the Earth in secret and relay information to the Keron Invasion Army. They were dispatched to Tokyo and peripheral areas to collect strategic data and prepare fro military takeover. Keroro alone infiltrated Hinata family's house but was accidentally busted by Hinata silblings, Natsumi and Fuyuki. He then lost his weapon and Kero Ball. With Keroro coming in contact with earthlings exposing the operation, the invasion army withdrew. He and his platoon have stranded on Earth and were given revised orders, to keep their home bases aka the households of their host families and their human friends safe, and to protect Earth from other aliens' attack.

Keroro used to be a competent officer until he arrived the Earth. Since then he has become lazy, lost most of his interest in Earth invasion and instead indulges in making Gunpla, watching anime and reading manga at the house of Hinata family, where he has lived since the arrival to the planet. In exchange of accommodation he is forced to do chores and run trivial errands for the family members, mostly Natsumi.

In spite of his look, he is in fact the most powerful and dangerous member of the platoon when he was back on Keron, his home planet. He has been severely weakened on Earth due to a significant lack of atmospheric moisture. The low humidity is not favourable to all Keronians, though Keroro seems to be the most susceptible to this.

Trivia

  • The name of her miracle in Kemono Friends 3 is called “Dangozaka SA” (談合坂SA). It is a reference to Keroro’s special move of the same name in manga chapter 165 or the anime episode 343. As Keroro didn’t have any special move, the rest of the Platoon helped him acquired one. The new move has the ability to hit its target at all angles. The in-game miracle animation also presents the move's origin by having all badges of the other Platoon members gather before the attack. The name of the move is in fact borrows from an actual place in Japan. Dangozaka Service Area (SA) (談合坂サービスエリア) is a traffic facility in the Chuo Expressway in Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture.
