Gentoo Penguin is a penguin Friend who has made appearances in all Kemono Friends media to date. She has been featured as a member of the Penguins Performance Project in all its iterations. Her nickname is Jen.

Appearance

Jen has long, black hair that reaches her waist, with orange highlights in the center of her bangs, symbolic of the beak of the real world bird. Her tail is long and distinctive, being identical in color to her hair. Her eyes are a lovely amber.

Jen is dressed in a "windbreaker" sports jacket designed to reflect the black and white plumage of the gentoo penguin, along with a white skirt and yellow boots. Her sleeves double as mittens, covering her hands entirely. She wears a pair of white headphones, with a design on either side that matches the color of her eyes.

In Real Life

Gentoo penguins, easily recognizable by the white stripe extending across the top of its head, are a common species of penguin native to Antarctica as well as numerous nearby islands in the far-southern hemisphere. Their long tails are particularly prominent amongst their fellow penguins.

They live in breeding colonies scattered across various sub-Antarctic islands, favoring ice-free surfaces where grass is present. They build their nests out of stone, and are prone to bickering with one another over stone ownership. Pairs of gentoos lay two eggs at a time, which are incubated by both parents.
