Kyururu is the human main character of Kemono Friends 2.

Appearance

Kyururu has black hair with edges gradually shifting towards a turquoise-like color. While his eyes have blue irises, Kyururu's eyes are unique for having differently-colored pupils, with the right pupil having a red color, and the left pupil having a tone somewhere between light blue and light green. In the rare moments that he is seen without his hat, he has two tufts of hair sticking out of the top of their head.

He wears a black shirt, partially covered by a blue sleeveless jacket as upper clothing. The lower clothing consists of gray pants that go all the way to Kyururu's shins and then fold, held together by a white belt. His shoes are light blue, with a darker tone near the heel. He has a blue safari hat with a small brim and a feather with a turquoise tip, darker blue middle, and white bottom.

Kyururu carries around a sketchbook with yellow-dark green rectangular shapes and logo, as well as a blue and dark blue backpack with a single strap, going diagonally through his chest.

The original Kyururu had natural hair and was insecure about his round face.

Personality

Much like Kaban, Kyururu is soft-spoken, timid, and has great difficulty remembering his past. He gradually begins to assert himself more over time. While he can sometimes be disappointed or skeptical with others' actions, he is not rude and admits his faults when shown to be in the wrong. Much like a human, Kyururu is susceptible to his own emotions, with exceptionally heavy emotions capable of getting the better of him.

He enjoys drawing, with their most valuable possession being his sketchbook full of colored sketches. He uses his sketchbook to document past events and give drawings to other Friends as presents, demonstrating kindness and an affinity for making friends. There are drawings of areas in Japari Park in his sketchbook from before his amnesia. Kyururu is determined and shows strong commitment to find his home using these drawings.

Kyururu has a knack for problem-solving. He is good at fixing things and making new items out of unrelated materials. Over time, he found his own unique way to help Friends with their issues and conflicts, including the creation of games for them to play with, often to stave off boredom or resolve fights.

Role in the Plot

Prior to Episode 1

A boy got attacked by the Cellien Queen while on a vacation with his family. A second generation Serval, Caracal, and Mirai were there. Serval was able to save the boy, at the expense of turning into a Beast and then returning to her animal form. The boy had some memory loss but safely returned home. He was able to have a normal life together with his family until he died of old age.

The boy had bought his sketchbook from a Kemono Friends merch store and already had two or three at home. The boy was also friends with the second generation Serval, who called him Kyururu like his Cellien generated successor.

After the disaster in Japari Park, the Cellien Queen produced Kyururu, a perfect copy of the boy that she had attacked years prior, using the boy's copied heart. Kyururu would awaken in one of the queen's eggs in a research laboratory.

Episode 1 - Beyond Memories

Kyururu first awakens in a mysterious egg-shaped structure in a Japari Park building, and presumably ends up in a forest after leaving the massive construct. He soon meets a wandering Caracal who warns him that they should leave the forest, but gets distracted by a large Cellien. The duo get surrounded by two Celliens, until Serval makes her debut and defeats them both. Later at Donkey's Bread Store, Kyururu remarks that he doesn't believe he's an animal after Serval comments he's "an animal who can eat anything".

After Caracal asks where Kyururu came from, the three decide to take a trip to the abandoned building where he woke up in. Kyururu begins having vague memories about his home, stating he wants to return there. Serval agrees to help Kyururu look for his home - she finds Kyururu's sketchbook, which he seems to remember. The three set out and come across Eastern Spot-Billed Duck, who guides them across the surrounding area, and Kyururu crosses a gap in the floor with Serval's encouragement.

At the end of the walk, Kyururu gives Eastern Spot-Billed Duck a drawing as a gift for helping him. A giant Cellien attacks shortly after, and Kyururu trips over a gate. Eastern Spot-Billed Duck uses her special skill to trick the Cellien, but Kyururu mistakes the action as a true injury. The three ride the Japari Line, a monorail system, before the Cellien once again attacks them, chasing them against the railing. The Cellien is eventually defeated by a mysterious figure noticed by Kyururu (which turns out to be Siberian Tiger). The group then sets off Azua Park.

Episode 2 - Panda and Panda

On the monorail car, Kyururu explains the idea of drawing and discusses his drawing skill with Serval and Caracal. Once entering Azua Park, Kyururu flips his sketchbook to reveal a playground scene, which becomes the location they are searching for in the episode. Kyururu first enquires Giant Panda of directions to the playground, and later enlists the help of Red Panda in finding the place. After meeting a dead end on a cliff, Kyururu doubts whether Red Panda has directed the trio to the right place, and only tags along Serval in following Red Panda around. Once back to their starting point, Kyururu comforts a weeping Red Panda for her initiative to the trio's aid.

Once Serval has picked up strangely-shaped pieces of metal, Kyururu immediately recognizes these as parts of the playground's equipment, and starts reassembling a slide with Caracal's help. He notes Red Panda's ability to climb trees and and assigns her to tighten the ropes of the swings by climbing up onto the beam. Kyururu takes enjoyment at the two cat and Red Panda having fun, and reminds Red Panda that she is of great help to notice the pieces, thus "finding" the playground. He is surprised at the strength Giant Panda shows when enraged by celliens ruining the equipment. Back on the platform, Kyururu thanks the two Panda for the time, has a flashback of him playing with the swing, and hears the news of some Friends finding a human from Giant Panda. As the trio departs for the next station, Kyururu turns to the page of the setting of the next episode, Marine Life Park.

Episode 3 - Creatures of the Sea

At the beach in Marine Life Park, Kyururu recognizes the sea and the scene in his sketchbook, and notices one of the structures in the page is gone. To find out the reason, the trio approaches Common Bottlenose Dolphin and California Sea Lion and Kyururu explains his home-searching journey after giving the pair Japari coronets. The trio board the boat parked at the pier, and the boat's glass bottom reveals the coral-laden seabed and the sunken performance stage to Kyururu. Taking the diver's helmet found by Serval, Kyururu overcomes his human incapacity and and joins the pair of marine Friends in exploring the submerged stage, where faint voices of cheering can be heard. Back on the boat, Kyururu recalls his memory of being in the stand.

Facing the unwillingness of the pair of marine Friends to row the trio back ashore without rewards, Kyururu improvises a toy by tying a buoy onto a fishing pole, which he uses to placate Common Bottlenose Dolphin, and throws life buoys at California Sea Lion, both of those in the memory of the audiences of old. The trio claps at the performance of the pair. As the sky turns orange, Kyururu draws the pair of marine Friends as performers in a full stage, and thanks the pair their help in the dive. The trio hurries away and leaves joyfully for their next destination.

Relationships

Caracal and Serval

Caracal meets Kyururu in the forest and saves him from Celliens with the help of Serval. Serval names him Kyururu after the sound his hungry stomach made. After hearing more about Kyururu's unique situation, they decide to help him find his home. Caracal and Serval get along well with Kyururu and are willing to help them get to wherever they want to go, as well as protect them from Celliens along the way.

Arma and Sen-chan

Arma and Sen-chan are looking for Kyururu to bring him back to their mysterious boss. While they briefly caught up with Kyururu in South Maerica Park, they were unable to retrieve Kyururu due to being spooked by Serval and Caracal.

Trivia

• Kyururu's gender, along with other information about his past that wasn't included in the Kemono Friends 2 anime, was revealed during the Kemono Friends World exhibition.
